A Cute Flower for My Wedding Day

Remember when I shared with all of you my first attempt at a hair flower? Well, clay was not the right material after I realized how dangerous my head was (I usually poke Mr. Poodle in the eyes with whatever I have in my hair).

So, fabric was a really tempting option. smile015 Miss Bear Cub and I wanted to try to make our own, so while I was visiting her (remember our BeeTV?) a few weeks a go, siii! We started playing with cute fabrics, pearls, feathers and beads.

This was our Monday morning project! Um, well… if you remember the amount of Pisco we had the night before (during our BeeTV broadcast), you can guess we were not in the best shape to craft! LOL. I did as much as I could, but I didn’t finish my flower. I left that cutie waiting for me while I researched for the beads and pearls I wanted for the center. And now finally, I’m done!!

{ My finished flower! }

Of course, as always, I wanted to share with all of you how I made mine, just in case you want to make your own.

This was my very first flower, so that means I’m not a flower expert. :P I try to follow all the instructions I found online, but in the end I just did it my own way and didn’t cut the shape of the flower out of the fabric (like I was supposed to do in Martha’s tutorial). I cut 2 different sizes of petals, starting with (approximately) 3″x2″ rectangles (for the big ones).

{ Not all of the petals are exactly the same size or shape,
I thought it would look more real that way }

After cutting all the petals, we lit a candle and sealed the fabric, just like Mrs. Piglet did in this tutorial.

{ Here you can see the finished shapes }

Once I had all of my petals ready, I stitched through one of the edges and attached the first layer of petals together.

{ Here you can see the petals sewn together. This was the bottom layer. }

I also cut tulle petals, but in this case I didn’t run the edges over the candle, because the tulle burns way faster. I tried several times but I ended up with ugly petals!

{ You can see the tulle petal layer on the left and the next white fabric layer of petals
attached on the right }

I ended up using 5 layers (of 6 to 8 petals each) of white fabric and 2 layers (of 6 petals each) of tulle for the flower.

{ I found some cute white feathers that I sewed to one of the sides}

{ I bought different green and purple beads to attach to the center of the flowers }

I played around with all the beads until I was completely happy with the result. I first tried to just sew them to the flower, but the small ones moved around too much so I ended up hot gluing them to the center. I grabed the beads one by one with tweezers and applied tiny amounts of hot glue to the beads. Then I placed them wherever I wanted them.

{ I used some lilac, purple, and clear purple beads, white feathers, and tulle }

I only have a small idea of how I want my hair that day – Big curls!! So I hope the flower looks better once my hair is all pretty :P

{ As usual, Curly couldn’t resist the camera – here we both are modeling my flower }

After I finished my flower, I decided to try and make flowers for my girls. I know my MOH wanted one for her hair and my little sister wanted one for her dress, so I started playing around again—this time with purple fabric and green beads.

{ I used some leftovers from one of my last projects }

{ This time I used different colors and sizes of green beads }

I still need to iron these flowers to shape the petals a little bit more, but I am going to do that once the flowers and dresses travel all the way to California, because otherwise, I’ll end up having to iron twice. I’ll use this small iron that I bought that on my first trip to the USA. It’s so small and handy.

I also made another one with a different center so they can have a variety to choose from.

I’ve notice that brides are going crazy over hair flowers these days! Did you jump on the hair flower bandwagon? Are you DIYing yours? What materials did you use?

Pom Project #1: Check!

Our fingers are sore but we can finally say we have made enough poms to decorate our chapel! Yay! We still have to make a million more, but at least the chapel is checked off. Our plan is to ship them to PA folded, and fluff them out before the big day.

So far, our chapel’s coordinator has found all of our plans for the wedding to be very strange. Like asking for a random half hour outside the church to do first looks early in the day. Or even dreaming of playing recorded music instead of live music in the chapel. I can imagine when she sees that I wrote “making paper poms” under floral arrangements, she’ll be raising her eyebrows!

Last time we visited the chapel I was sure to count the number of pews and examine how decorations could hang in various places. Here is the plan and an example of quick and dirty Photoshopping:

  • Paper pom garland hanging on either side of the altar.
  • One or two poms (maybe a big and small) hanging on every third pew to decorate the aisle, unless I get a second wind and make enough for every second pew.

I bought some 1″ ivory ribbon, purchased at half-price ($8) for the entire roll, that I’m planning to hang the aisle poms from. There was in issue about how these would actually hang, since there is no apparent way to hook or wrap them on to the pew ends. My plan is weigh the opposite end of the pom down with sand and a balloon. I know, super classy, but it’s the best idea I’ve come up with so far and I am open to suggestions! It just has to be quick and easy, since it’s up to our DOC and bridal party to get the decor up before the ceremony. No plan yet when it comes to what we’ll do for the exterior doors of the church. Wreath? Pom? Initials? Who knows.

Now that I see our interior plan all laid out, I feel like the altar is yelping for two vases of flowers to be set on it. Needs a little somethin’ somethin’ up there. And maybe red pom garlands instead of white in the front. Sigh… decisions.

How are you decorating your ceremony space and who will be getting it all set up? You? Your florist? Some special helper fairies?

Save Money With Inexpensive Yet Elegant Wedding Table Decorations

One of the simplest yet important things to consider in a wedding are the wedding favors. Of course you want your friends and family to remember this one momentous occasion and you want to give them something, a token of appreciation and something to keep and remember your wedding day. Now, you’re on a tight budget and still would want something to give away. Here are some inexpensive ideas you can make by yourself.

Personalized Chocolate bars
One sweet and inexpensive way of having your favors are personalized candies and chocolates. You can do this on your own. Chocolates can be expensive but there are a lot to choose from. You can opt to purchase inexpensive mini chocolate candy bars based on your budget. Peel off the paper label, leaving the foil intact and get the exact measurements of the label. Then you can have someone design your label or if you are creative you can design it on your own. Then print your design and cut the same measurement as the original label. You can use a simple paper, or a special glossy paper, depending on your choice. Now your label is ready! Wrap the label around the chocolate bar and paste ends together. Voila! You now have your personalized chocolate candy bars to give away.

Candy Bags
Another option is to purchase candies and put them inside a tulle pouch. All you need are candies, tulle material or organza. Tulle is the same fabric used in veils. You can purchase this in any color depending on your motif. Cut the tulle in squares in any size you want but keep it uniform. Get the candies and put them in the center of the tulle, get all ends together and tie with any string or ribbon. For the tags, you can have this printed out yourself, with you thank you note and the necessary details. Punch a hole, slide in a string and attach to the pouch.

Candy Filled Favor Tins
This is a really sweet and cute wedding favor. Use aluminum tins with clear top. Fill it with candies (jelly beans, candy sprinkles or tiny chocolate candies). Tie a ribbon or string around it. You can print out thank you notes in sticker paper or use tags.

Cookie Favor boxes
If you have a knack for baking, you can bake cookies and other goodies and pack tem inside a box. Personalize it by using stickers or tags.

Bookmarks
Bookmarks are inexpensive, and very useful souvenir. You can put quotes or poems or even a thank you note you wrote yourself. You can have it printed back to back or just one side. It’s really your choice. You can use board papers, which are widely available in bookstores.

Candles
Candles are also nice as wedding favors. There are a lot of sizes and shapes to choose from- scented or unscented. If you choose to have small to medium candles, you can just print out the label and paste it around the candle. You can also put ribbons, and other tiny decors you wish, then attach a tag to it. If you want to use tea light candles, you can also put them inside a tulle pouch, like the candies.

Bottled Favors
For this one you can buy empty clear bottles with cork lids, in any size, any shape you want. Think out of the box. You can put colored or plain sand or you can put confetti, which you can also make by yourself. You can put colored candy sprinkles as well. You have an option to paste the label outside the bottle or attach a thank you note tag on the bottle’s neck. Or you can simply put a scroll of paper inside the bottle.

Add decorations using ribbons or any string. If you want to use colored bottles, just decorated it with ribbons and strings, stickers, or use rubber glue stick or glitter paint for a personal and artistic touch. You can also use clear bottles and spray them with frosted glass spray you can buy at hardware stores and craft stores.

Wedding Soundtrack CD:
Got a theme song? Why not make your own wedding soundtrack? This is so easy and something your guests will enjoy. Pick songs to tell your love story and burn them in a CD. Personalize the CD sticker label with your thank you note and a photo.

Now doesn’t this makes planning your wedding all the more exciting? Adding personal touch in an inexpensive yet creative and artistic way of making your guests cherish and remember your wedding.

My Inexpensive Western Cowboy Wedding

Author: Kathy Angell

It seems like more weddings happen in the month of June. If you have a wedding coming up in the near future, you may be dealing with the planning of the details right now. You’re searching for the right caterer and the reception hall and possibly browsing through invitation books looking for the perfect way to announce to your friends and family of your upcoming wedding celebration. Sometimes the meaning of it all can get lost in the planning. It all can be so overwhelming as it is for many of us these days.

My grandmother often told me that weddings in the olden days were more about the actual ceremony than spending absurd amounts of money. There was very little expense because there was very little to spend.

Outdoor weddings were common and used the beauty of Mother Nature to enhance the ceremony using flowers that were handpicked from the meadows. The wedding dresses were made by hand or handed down through generations. The groom would wear his best Sunday attire. Pot-luck picnics were held following the wedding. The type of gifts people would bring for the happy couple were handmade quilts, homemade jams and jellies or smoked meat. The gifts were more about survival than pleasure.

Some weddings these days seem to focus more on the expense, the latest styles, the hottest fashions and less on the actual marriage vows of two souls. The cost of these types of weddings can become astronomical.

My budget would not allow for an extravagant wedding, but I still wanted a beautiful one. I chose to go back to the simplistic style of years past. I have always been enthralled with the old cowboy life-style and way of living that my grandmother spoke about when I was a child and that was my inspiration in planning my wedding.

My grandmother talked about how they picked a beautiful place by the Snake river where the water flowed peacefully. The white pines soared into the beautiful blue sky and sheltered the area from the bright warm sun. There was a variety of wild flowers spread through out the tall green grass.

My grandfather patiently waited by the rivers edge as my grandmother rode toward him in a black buggy. As she began to walk in his direction, her beautiful white homemade wedding dress glistened in the sun. My grandfather said she looked like an angel walking toward him. When they joined hands in marriage they felt they became as one.

I set out to create much of the same natural inexpensive environment as my grandparents. I found a location near a small stream with lots of beautiful pine trees. Because my wedding was in July, the mountain meadows were filled with a variety of beautiful wildflowers that I included in my bouquet, table centerpieces and cake decoration. We decided to ride in on separate horses rather than using a buggy like my grandmother.

Our invitations were computer generated with a western theme and our included photograph was taken by a family member with a digital camera and printed on an inkjet printer. They looked just as good as a professional design and we received many compliments on them. The best part was we saved oodles of money.

I found a beautiful inexpensive wedding dress for only ninety-nine dollars and I wore a white cowboy hat that I had adorned with a veil. My husband wore a white silk western shirt with a black leather vest and black wranglers. We both wore our cowboy boots.

All other members of the wedding line wore black Wrangler pants with the girls wearing blue western blouses and the men wearing white western shirts. Some wore black cowboy hats and boots. The guests were told they could dress casually and gifts were optional.

We built a hitching post which we placed his and hers saddles upon. We dressed up the posts and saddles with bows. We stood at the hitching post for the ceremony. It may sound a little corny, but it was really beautiful.

The ceremony went well and without a hitch. Many were concerned I might fall off my horse and become an entry on Funniest Home Videos, but little did they know I’m an excellent horse rider and my horse is very gentle. Some commented that it was like watching a fairy tale wedding; which only proves that you can have an inexpensive wedding and it can still be breathtaking.

The reception dinner was held at the same location following the ceremony in a sheltered area. We provided the Dutch oven meat and the guests brought salads and other fixings.

We were fortunate enough to have a relative that makes wedding cakes for a good price. She incorporated the wild flowers into the decorating of the cake and the cake top was a cute cowboy couple. We had live entertainment provided by a family member who played guitar and sang. All in all, our wedding cost under $1000.

My inexpensive western wedding proves that you can have a wedding that is just as meaningful, if not more so, without the overshadowing of glitz and glamour to take away from the original reason, which is, the joining of two souls.

Most Elegant Colors for Your Fall Wedding

autumn-weddingsOne of the first things that people imagine at the mere mention of the phrase, “fall weddings” is a wedding event with a traditional rustic autumn look complete with colors that match autumn leaves and pumpkins. However, it is necessary to note that a fall wedding color palette is not limited to these shades. In fact, a wide variety of autumn hues is available for couples to choose from.

To have a fabulous autumn wedding that will be the talk of the town, here are some tips on how to pick the right shades and some options on fall colors that would look elegant and exquisite on your wedding day.

  • Incorporate the feeling of rich and cozy autumn in your color choices. When choosing your autumn color palette, it helps when you think about how autumn feels. The colors you choose should echo this same emotion.
  • Combine your favorite color with autumn colors. Having a wedding during this time does not mean you cannot make use of your own favorite color. Sure, the color lavender is more ideal in April than in October but if this is your preferred shade, what you can do is to combine this with more rich shades of purple and dark brown to give depth to the event.
  • Go for two or multiple toned color motif. If you cannot decide on a single wedding motif color, why not have two or more? This makes the event more exciting and more colorful than having just one color all throughout.
  • Avoid cliché autumn colors. If you want to have chocolate brown as the main color of the event, avoid pairing it up with a traditional orange or sunflower yellow. Instead, combine it with purple or mint green for a unique and chic feel.
  • Add depth by going for warm metallics such as gold, copper, and bronze. These shades are ideal for adding depth and elegance to your primary hue. The great thing about using these colors is that they can easily complement almost any kind of autumn color.
  • Combine complementary colors. If you have an autumn color palette in your hand, you have to remember that not all of these colors would go well together when paired. While eggplant shade and chocolate brown look good, other shades like orange and pink do not blend.

Color Options for your Autumn Wedding

  • Eggplant purple
  • Burgundy
  • Olive green
  • Mahogany
  • Cream
  • Orange
  • Sunflower yellow
  • Green
  • Chocolate brown

Ideas for Two-color Combinations for your Fall Wedding

  • Eggplant purple and olive green
  • Chocolate brown and  red
  • Red and orange
  • Olive green and Mocha brown
  • Chocolate and eggplant purple

Suggestions on Three-color Combinations

  • Chocolate brown, red and orange
  • Eggplant purple, olive green, and dark olive
  • Mocha brown, chocolate brown and eggplant purple
  • Chocolate brown, mocha and ivory

It is true that the fall is a great season for weddings, which is why many couples decide to get married during this time. Just make sure that you choose the right wedding colors to make the event more beautiful and memorable.

Funny Things That Brides Do

dutchbrideGrooms treasure wedding events but not as much as brides do. For brides, this is the event of their lifetime, the event that they have been dreaming of since they were nothing but little flower girls pretending to be blushing brides.

This is probably the reason why brides end up doing many funny things before, during, and even after the wedding. They want the event to be perfect and flawless to the point where they wind up doing funny, crazy, and strange things that would make them and their husbands holler in laughter a few years later.

Here are the top funny things that brides do.

1. The bride cries over the smallest things
It is understandable that the bride becomes sensitive during the whole period of wedding preparation, and more sensitive during the event itself. However, it can really be quite funny when some brides cry over the smallest things that are not even touching to begin with. Like when a bride sobs upon seeing a white flower because it reminds her of her wedding gown or how a bride spills tears upon hearing a song that is not even a romantic one just because it merely mentioned the word, “wedding.”

2. The bride does weird things because she is nervous
During the wedding event, you will find some brides extremely nervous and anxious. Some brides do weird hand gestures while talking to guests. Some tell weird jokes that are not funny at all. Some talk about strange stories that nobody wants to hear. All of these odd antics unconsciously happen because a bride wants to pacify the anxiety boiling inside her.

3. The bride turns into a bridezilla
Have you ever seen an obsessive woman in a white gown bossing around her bridesmaids, insulting family and relatives, and going ballistic with the florist or the wedding planner? You surely vowed never to become this kind of bride but when you are on the shoes of the bride and you feel the tension going around you, there is still that possibility of turning into a bridezilla.

While being a bridezilla is not really funny to most people especially to those that become the target of the bride’s wrath, it still belongs to this list because several years after the event, you can really laugh about how monstrous you have become during the wedding. Of course, it is best to avoid becoming one as much as possible.

4. The bride becomes too intoxicated with alcohol
It is normal to see brides drinking before the wedding event or during the reception to calm their nerves. However, this usually backfires when the bride winds up doing embarrassing things because of intoxication like dropping the bouquet, tripping over the gown, or falling off the stairs.

5. The bride eats too much chocolate cake

Some brides tend to eat too much when their nervous and when it is time to smile for the photograph, it would seem like a tooth is missing on your usually perfect row of white pearls.

6. The bride comes up with strange ideas for the wedding
In the desire to come up with a unique and memorable event, a bride sometimes ends up including strange ideas for the wedding like wearing a huge hat that is more funny than elegant or making the groomsmen wear electric blue suits that make them look like aliens from outer space.

If you are going to be a bride anytime soon, it would be a good idea to keep these things in mind so you have an idea of the things that you should stay away from. This can help you avoid doing things that you would regret.

How to Write the Perfect Best Man’s Speech

bestmanSo you have been bestowed the great honor of being Best Man at a friend’s wedding; a noble duty, indeed.  But if this is the case, then why is it that so many men smile and nod when accepting the invitation, and then have the overwhelming desire to hunker down under the covers come “The Big Day”?  There is one main reason: public speaking.  Really, the groom himself oftentimes gets off easier than the best man!  All he has to say is “I Do”, while you’ve got to remember a long and endearing speech that the happy couple will remember till death do they part!

Ok, slow down and breathe.  It’s not that bad, really.  A Best Man’s speech, much to your dismay, will not be remembered (although it will likely be documented).  This is a good thing for you to come to terms with, because it will allow you to just relax; and when you do that, you will write a stellar speech and deliver it with the eloquence of a seasoned politician.

Like any good story, the Best Man’s speech will need a beginning, a middle, and an end.  To put the right words into play, take a walk down memory lane, keeping the following in mind:

  • How you know the happy couple.
  • What words come to mind when you think of each of them.
  • If you knew the groom before he met his bride, how has she changed him for the better?  What was he like before he was with his bride?
  • Memories of experiences shared with the groom, or the couple together, that displayed their strengths as a couple, or individual strengths of each person.
  • Any marriage advice that you have learned or heard

It is important to begin your Best Man’s speech by making sure you have everyone’s attention.  This can be done by clinking of glasses, or simply by stating “Excuse me, may I have everyone’s attention”.  Once you have the floor, start off by acknowledging the hosts of the wedding, such as the bride’s parents.  If the bride and groom have paid for their own wedding, you may begin by stating how nice it is to see so many people come together on such a joyous occasion, and then introduce yourself, including how you know the groom.  Many Best Men roll right into a funny story about the groom, or a (clean) joke, in order to break the ice and draw everyone in.

Your Best Man speech should be engaging, but brief.  Speak about both the groom and the bride, and keep stories appropriate for all ages.  Remember the room will be filled with friends and family, and possibly young ears.

Writing down your speech is great, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t practice it a few times as well.  Public speaking isn’t something most of us do every day, and therefore practice is helpful.  It will help you be more comfortable with speaking loudly and clearly, as you will need to do on the happy day.

Practice will also help alleviate any nerves you may experience as the time for your Best Man’s toast approaches.  One thing NOT to do is calm your nerves with alcohol.  Preparedness will serve you much better, and the groom will appreciate the effort you have put into his big day.  Once your Best Man’s toast is finished, raise your glass along with everyone else and enjoy some bubbly.

The Five Biggest Wedding Preparation and Planning Mistakes

Author: Cherie Johnson

Just as with any big show, your wedding day will not be perfect – but that’s okay. While you cannot plan ahead for every little detail or problematic situation that may arise, you can arm yourself with some helpful advice to be prepared at all times for any potential wedding mistakes. But before you begin planning your special day, consider these five biggest wedding preparation and planning mistakes that amateur ‘wedding planners’ often make.

1. Not Budgeting Costs

It’s hard to believe, but true – many couples do not create a budget when it comes to wedding preparation and end up in a deep hole of debt. The very first thing you should do to avoid disastrous (and bankrupting) wedding mistakes is devise an itemized budget, allowing for the necessary requirements, such as a venue for both the ceremony and reception, food and drinks, flowers, favors, decorations, etc. If anything is left over, either use this money for your honeymoon or spend it on something a little more frivolous, like a horse drawn carriage for your departure from the reception.

Budgeting ahead of time also involves your acknowledging the fact that you may surpass the total by at least 10%. Surprises do happen, so cutting back on other needless things will ensure that you don’t go over budget too much. In these initial wedding preparation stages, you and your fiancé need to discuss who will be paying for what. It used to be that the bride’s parents paid for everything, but this ideal is slowly fading away. If you’re still coming up short on funds, there are literally hundreds of ways to cut costs for your wedding day, including having fewer guests, choosing an off-season date, selecting flowers that are in season, and having friends and family play a bigger part by making the wedding cake or trying their hand at photography.

2. Not Giving Yourself Enough Time

The image of the harried bride has been engrained into the psyche through a number of television shows that hype up the combination of little to no time and a ‘my way or the highway’ attitude. This is why giving yourself ample wedding preparation time is necessary to ensuring that your wedding flows seamlessly. If you want a large, extravagant wedding, you need to begin planning at least a year and a half in advance; for a smaller, more intimate wedding of about 50 guests, eight months to a year is fine. You need to take into account what your plans are for your wedding and adjust your schedule accordingly to prevent costly wedding mistakes from occurring.

Giving yourself more wedding preparation time allows you to order your cake, dress, wedding favors, flowers, decorations, etc. well in advance so that you don’t come up empty-handed from last minute rushing. Allotting enough time also applies to your wedding ceremony and reception. Don’t keep your guests waiting at the reception venue while you and your wedding party are taking hundreds of photos – consider taking a majority of the pictures before the ceremony and the all-important couple, wedding party, and family pictures after the vows have been exchanged.

3. Not Delegating Responsibilities

Delegating responsibilities, wedding preparation tasks, and roles is vital – you cannot do everything! For brides, their bridesmaids are there to help them with the important duties of the wedding day, so creating a short list of responsibilities for each friend is not unexpected. Mothers, family members, and friends are also glad to help run a few errands or make calls for you if you ask. Just make sure you ask someone you know will get the job done on time.

Part of the wedding experience also relies on a number of people who require detailed wedding preparation directives from you, such as the caterer, photographer, florist, transportation and/or drivers, and DJ. Discussing your ideas with them ensures that you can work together on the same wavelength and avoid embarrassing wedding mistakes during the actual reception. You should also arrange for the wedding party to meet at the church or the wedding ceremony location at a specified time. Corralling so many people at the same time is what leads many couples to pick up the wedding party members at their homes. Late arriving wedding party members is one of the most frequent and sometimes uncontrollable wedding mistakes a bride and groom have to deal with.

4. Not Hiring a Wedding Planner or Someone You Trust

Many brides swear by their wedding planners, and yes, it’s true that they take care of just about everything involved in wedding preparation and planning, preventing a number of the more common wedding mistakes brides make. It’s kind of like you and your fiancé are the stars, while the wedding planner works behind the scenes for your big performance, seeing everything from start to finish. Wedding planners know all the ins and outs of great wedding preparation and planning and can help the couple find reliable caterers, bridal attire and supply stores, transportation, and DJs at lower prices. Before signing any contracts, however, talk with the wedding planner to see if it’s a situation you’re happy with.

While incredibly helpful, wedding planners can also be pricey, unfortunate for the bride who is trying to cut costs. This scenario goes back to delegating responsibilities – ask someone you trust to help you make wedding preparation arrangements and appointments with each wedding supply store and/or vendor. You can even scale back operations and have a simplistic wedding that you plan or DIY completely to save money.

5. Not Fully Considering the Reception Venue and Details

Sending your guests on a wild goose chase to find the reception venue is something that happens more often than you’d think and is one of the biggest wedding mistakes couples overlook. For out-of-town guests, this is confusing; for in-town guests, it’s an annoyance. Choosing a reception venue that’s close to the wedding site is a must, unless you provide the transportation to and from the reception. More than 15 – 20 minutes away is a hassle, and some guests may not even bother going if it’s farther than that.

Otherwise, if your reception venue is outside (or exposed to the elements), rain and windy conditions may appear so you should always have a back up in cases of inclement weather. A rained out wedding reception is one of the more common wedding mistakes brides have neglected to plan for. Part of the wedding preparation necessities should also include your requesting the venue’s landscaper to spray for bugs so your guests aren’t being bitten by mosquitoes and gnats.

Learn to Laugh Off Those Wedding Mistakes

Pre-wedding preparation, while helpful, will inevitably miss some little detail of your big day. These wedding mistakes (or, more likely, minor ‘blips’) are to be expected and may even provide a funny moment for you and your fiancé to laugh about in the future. Wedding mistakes do and will happen, but you shouldn’t be bothered by them. Simply go on with the show and smile – no one will know the difference!

Your Wedding Scrapbook

Author: SA Wedding Photographers

Your wedding day goes by so quickly, it’s just obvious that you’ll do everything in your power to preserve your memories! I can’t think of a better way of doing this that with a Wedding Scrapbook.

Its important to decide what your goal is before you enthusiastically approach your first page. Would this book only tell your wedding day tale or do you want it to include everything from the engagement to the honeymoon? Decide on a look and feel (romantic, vintage, clean) as well as on the colour scheme before you start this exciting project.

The most popular way is to go with your wedding colours, but it might be interesting to add a bit of extra colour, for example if your wedding colours were white and lilac, you can add silver and a deep purple to this, even a slight touch of pink. As long as the colours don’t overpower your photos – the extras should be subtle in order to make your photos the primary focus (the majority of the memorabilia can be stored in a nice memento box). You wouln’t want to look at this in 15 years and shreak, therefore its better to keep it simplistic, which will definitely guarantee a timeless and elegant look.

It would be wise to do your planning before you hit the shops. This would include how many pages your album would be, what photos and memorabilia you’d like to use etc. To create a personal, intimate feel, use the more spontaneous photos for scrap booking, the more posed photos can be framed or sent to family members, the remainder of the photos can be stored in a separate album. It’s a good idea to print a duplicate set to work with – this would give you peace as you’re working, knowing that your originals are safe.

Memorabilia you might want to include:

- Wedding and bridal shower invites

- Fabric from your dress (as well as any other fabric samples)

- Receipts

- Bridal registry

- Napkins

- Any form of printed material (menu, song-list etc, congrats and thank-you cards)

- Honeymoon tickets and extras

- Congrats and thank you cards

The foundation of a scrapbook is the journaling, sit down somewhere where you won’t be disturbed and go back to that special day – What did you feel when preparing for this big day, when the minister declared you husband and wife, sitting at the reception looking at your guests? When writing, be real and be yourself. We so often forget these very special moments, this way your memories will be preserved as long as you both shall live.

Bring in some of your friends or family’s thoughts – ask a few people you are close to, to write down a sentence or two on what it was that stood out for them on this day (supply them with nice paper or a colourful pen). Start the book with a dedication page – why you are creating this book, why your wedding day was such a special day etc. Some other pages you can add is “what I remember” or “what I was grateful for” or even “what didn’t matter at this stage” – as women we often plan this day and want it to be absolutely perfect, but when we are in the moment, we realize that that’s so not the point of this day.

As you create your book, be real and true – don’t only choose the perfect pictures – being real when choosing your photos and writing your love story will show throughout your book. And most of all, enjoy making this book and enjoy this season!

The Lazy Groom’s Survival Guide

lazy groomSo you have found your dream woman and asked for her hand in marriage. While the two of you are no doubt floating in the clouds; as you step over stacks of bridal magazines strategically placed in every room, you may be wondering what in the world you have gotten yourself into in regards to planning. All the details of the wedding itself are small beans to most grooms, especially the lazy groom.

Does this mean that you don’t care about your wedding, or about your bride? Absolutely not. It simply means that you have the ability to go with the flow and enjoy the day for what it represents, not who it impresses. There are ways that a lazy groom can make it to the alter unscathed, and with a happy bride at his side. We will look at just how you can do that here.

Luckily, bridal magazines, books and the internet seem to pay great attention to the wedding duties of just about everyone but the groom himself. It’s as if the groom, an integral part of this party, is merely along for the ride. He shows up, looking dapper, on wedding day and they live happily ever after. It just doesn’t get any easier than this!

However, there can be a glitch when the bride, or one of her trusted bridesmaids, comes up with the idea that the groom would like to miss the big game to go shopping for invitations or taste cake. One could wonder if women really think men want to do these things, or if they only ask their groom out of guilt for leaving him at home while she handles all of the preparations with her girlfriends.

Here is the one big way the lazy groom can ensure that his time is not eaten up with mundane tasks during the wedding planning stage. Continue to woo your bride-to-be. That’s right. When she feels loved and pampered, you will find you are easily released from many duties that you may otherwise get roped into.

The bride has much on her plate, and she does need to know that you care. Turn off the TV long enough to listen to your beloved after a long day of shopping, talking and planning. Support her every decision, and do all that you can to make sure she is not getting stressed out; otherwise, you may wind up with a Bridezilla on your hands.

The one thing you need to remember is to be interested. While you may not desire to walk the entire wedding district of your town, you can show interest by listening to your bride. Don’t say “just tell me when and where to show up’. Don’t EVER say “I don’t care” when asked what you think of an idea or plan. Find constructive ways to give some amount of input and make your bride feel supported. Keep her happy, and you’ll make it through. Comedian Jeff Allen has it right: “Happy Wife, Happy Life!”

7 Things You Should Know About Wedding Flowers

wedding flowersThe special event that is your wedding is just not the same without the sights and scents lent only by beautiful, aromatic flowers.  Some weddings have flowers on everything from the bride and groom and the altar to the wedding cake itself.  No matter what type of wedding you are planning; regardless of the theme, the wedding flowers make an impression on all who gather around you on your celebratory day.

When you set out to make arrangements for the details of your wedding décor and wedding flowers, there are some things you may want to keep in mind in order to make the right choices for everyone involved.  Here are some things to remember as you plan your wedding flowers

  • Make a list of what you need flowers for.  There are flowers needed for important individuals in the ceremony, such as bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids, boutonnieres for the groom, father of the bride and groom, groomsmen, and corsages for mother of the bride and groom.  Then there are flowers for the ceremony itself, such as for the altar or the unity candle.  Lastly, you may want flowers for the reception.
  • Size of arrangements needs to be taken into consideration.  For instance, if you are planning to have floral centerpieces, they should be small enough for guests to talk over them during their meal.
  • Availability is an important thing to consider.  If you have a special flower that MUST be a part of your wedding, then plan your date around the time of year when that flower is in season.  Otherwise, just visit your local wedding florist for the flowers that will be in season when your wedding takes place.
  • Scent is an important characteristic of a flower; and some flowers are more fragrant than others.  When choosing flowers, it is wise to know how strong the scent is, for some may be sensitive to the fragrance.  In certain places, such as tables at the reception, fragrant flowers are much appreciated.
  • Freshness plays a role in wedding flowers; and should be considered before ordering.  Some types of flowers will stay fresh longer than others after they have been cut.  You don’t want your bouquet to wilt before you say “I Do”.
  • Cost can be a factor that must be considered.  Wedding flowers arranged through a florist can cost anywhere from around $700 to over $1,000. When you are on a budget, you want to get as much as you can for as little as possible.

Do-it-yourself floral arrangements is an option if you are looking to save money.  While this can take some time in research and preparation, the money you save  can be well worth the effort you put into your wedding floral arrangements.  Besides saving some money, you can bond with those in your wedding party while making arrangements together!

Outstanding Wedding Reception Table Decorations

Wedding Table DecorationsDecor expresses your special theme based on location, season or formality. Give your guests something interesting to look at during the party by displaying attractive wedding reception table decorations.

When your guests arrive to celebrate your big day, have wedding directional signs displayed so they know exactly where to go. While you’re familiar with the location, some of your guests may feel lost when they arrive. Wedding directional signs make your guests feel comfortable right away.

Once your guests reach the reception area, they look for their place cards to determine where to sit. Before the wedding, you create a seating chart so you can determine who will be at each table. The tables are numbered so guests can easily reference which table they are sitting at. Use decorative place card holders on each table so guests can readily find the table number.

At each place setting, put a themed place card with the guest’s name. There are literally hundreds of different place cards to choose from. If you have a formal wedding, use embossed roses on ivory place cards. You can have western themed place cards at a country wedding. For an added touch of elegance at your wedding reception tables, display place cards in beautiful place card holders. This makes the place cards easier to find and becomes a lasting keepsake for your guests.

Place card holders also make eye-catching wedding reception table decorations to make the theme of your special day. Even if you use plain place cards, decorative place card holders make them fancy. Use a vase place card holder filled with a silk blossom your guests can take home to remember your wedding. At a beach or waterfront wedding, silver plated shell shaped place card holders bring the sea to your table. An Asian brocade snap purse is an ideal place card holder at Oriental themed weddings. At a garden wedding, use a tulip in a silver pot as a place card marker.

Once your guests arrive at the table and find their place cards, they will sit down and look around at the other table decorations. Make sure your tablecloths and napkins match the colors and themes of your wedding. Decorative napkins rings add a touch of class to your tables. Make sure there are adequate utensils for all the foods being served.

Flowers are a traditional part of your table decorations. You may have a florist create arrangements with live flowers, the reception facility may provide certain flowers or you can create your own floral arrangements with real or silk flowers and a bit of creativity.

Choose attractive vases that won’t overwhelm your tables or block the view for your guests. Create interested by using square vases in various sizes. Fill the vases with water and add polymer pearls that expand into attractive spheres in colors such as pink sapphire blue, aqua, clear and black to match the theme of your wedding. You can even use water and pearls with silk flower arrangements to create a “live” effect. After the reception, these flowers become lasting keepsakes for you and your guests.

Table centerpieces add life to your tables without distracting your guests from talking or the activities during the wedding reception. Your wedding reception table decorations should be attractive and functional. Consider place plates in the center of each tables that spell out “L-O-V-E” and fill them with mints, candies, chocolates and nuts. To really give your guests a special treat, set up a heart-shaped fondue maker in the middle of every table so guests can dip strawberries in melted chocolate.

Add colorful shells, rocks or candies to the center of each wedding reception table in clear, glass cylinders. Turn a simple cylinder into something fabulous with colorful fillers and ribbon accents. If you have a country themed wedding, you can use a glass contained shaped like a western boot to hold goodies in the middle of every table.

Finally, the favors to the guests are also attractive wedding decorations. From silver plated wine stoppers to a small frame featuring a photo of the happy couple, favors are table decorations as well as tokens of thanks.

Wedding reception table decorations put your guests in a partying mood as soon as they arrive.

Is Your Wedding In The City of Lights

Theme wedding favors help to brighten up your wedding even more by highlighting your theme. There are many different types of themes to choose from – you have your choice of humorous themes to seasonal ones, and from color themes to era-inspired ones. Wedding venues can also be your inspiration – the beach, countryside and luaus are common wedding favor themes.

Another interesting theme for wedding favors is the Vegas theme. Perfect for weddings in the City of Lights, Vegas wedding favors carry the same bright and festive ambiance that is synonymous with the city. Some of the most popular choices for these are:

- Bride And Groom favors. These are wedding favors that look like a typical bride and groom, complete with wedding gown and tuxedo. These little lookalikes can be made into place card holders, notepads, photo frames, favor boxes and even edibles like cookies and candy. As they are often in formal garb and colors of black and white, they are best suited for more formal weddings.

- Showgirl favors. Similar to the bride and groom favors, these are wedding favors that showcase showgirl pictures in their shimmery garb. With showgirl favors, however, you have the option of being more adventurous in your choice of keepsakes. Instead of conventional photo frames and place card holders, you could have feathered fans, lucky charms, fortune cookies or scented water disguised “potions” in little bottles.

- Playing cards. In line with the infamous casinos and entertainment scene in Las Vegas, playing cards are also an appropriate and practical favor. For a more conservative guest list, these cards can have pictures of the various scenic spots around the city and Nevada, while a more risqué crowd could have showgirls in their daring costumes.

- Faux gambling dice are also very appropriate as Vegas favors. These can be made into key chains, gift boxes, bottle stoppers or metal tins with likewise-designed cookies or candles inside. Actual playing dice can also be given as wedding favors, as long as the guests you are giving them to are adults.

- Las Vegas signboards bearing familiar and well-known Vegas nightspots make very memorable wedding favors. Place card holders are the best favors to carry such names.

- Iconic keepsakes are also popular for weddings with a Vegas theme. Right at the top of the list is Elvis, who has been a big icon favorite at most weddings. Elvis-inspired favors include having the superstar’s infamous caped, sequined outfits on notepad covers, salt-and-pepper shakers and even tall candles.

- Show tickets make a rare momentum. Tickets to a current show that will be on around the same time as your wedding date would make a memorable favor for your guests who, it is guaranteed, will always remember your wedding every time someone mentions “Las Vegas”.

- Crystals are also great gift ideas, although a little more expensive than the average wedding keepsake. To keep in line with the Las Vegas theme, have crystals in the form of playing dice encased in a clear casing or paperweight in the exact design of an iconic Las Vegas building like the MGM casino and hotel.

- Casino chips are also an extremely unique yet highly appropriate Las Vegas gift. You can have the chips as edible gifts like chocolate and strawberry cookies, as decorative items like statuettes and paperweight or on practical favors like watering cans and glasses.

- Venue-inspired keepsakes can also be beautiful, memorable pieces of your wedding. Carefully framed postcards can be interesting, personal and unique Las Vegas wedding favors. These postcards can be personalized with a little note from you and your spouse and for an added personal touch, should ideally be a significant spot in Vegas. If buying postcards of the same place proves too challenging, even better would be a photograph or photographs of the same spot that you can take. This cuts down on cost and ensures you have enough pictures for each favor.

Las Vegas keepsakes are perfect to give that little bit of excitement into your wedding, particularly it is in the city itself. Even if it was elsewhere, adding a little Vegas touch like with Las Vegas wedding favors makes the celebration a little bit more interesting.
